Map reading and navigation on the mountains is a fundamental skill to have when walking in the Scottish and other mountains in Britain A one-day Tarmachan Mountaineering navigation course will give you a firm grounding in practical mountain navigation skills. The courses aim to introduce or refresh essential navigation skills.
We can run a navigation course on demand at a date that suits you and at a pace that suits you. You won’t be in a large group. The maximum group numbers are 4. Most of our courses are bespoke and geared around you.
We run 1 and 2-day courses.
1 Day Summer Navigation
A 1-day course for the total beginner which will set you up with the basics of using a map and compass over easy mountain terrain.

2 Day Summer Navigation
This 2-day course is a follow on from the 1-day course. We get onto more featureless terrain. The two days are quite flexible and can also include a session of night navigation.
