Tarmachan Mountaineering is run by Gary Hodgson. Gary 'discovered' the mountains of Britain and, soon after, the Alps in his late teenage years. He has over 30 years of personal experience, walking and climbing in the mountains of the UK and many other countries around the world.
In 1998 Gary decided he wanted to make a career of sharing his passion for high and wild places and has been guiding groups and individuals of varied ages, abilities and backgrounds in the Scottish mountains ever since. It may sound very clichéd but he really does live and breathe the mountains!
Gary aims to give you the best mountain experience ever. He has an overwhelming love for the hills, the wildlife, conservation and most of all just being out in the wild. He hopes his enthusiasm will be passed on to all his groups. You can expect the very highest quality tuition, safety and enjoyment.
On occasions when Tarmachan Mountaineering become busy we have a small team of qualified freelance leaders and instrutors to call upon. All of these professional guides have equal enthusiasm with many years experience working with groups in the mountains of Scotland.
Gary lives in Aviemore at the foot of The Cairngorm Mountains, Scotland.
