Nearing Lac Blanc. June 2008

The first day of the trek takes us up to Lac Blanc, a popular and beautiful day walk in its own right. Lac Blanc is on the opposite side of the valley to Mont Blanc so there are fabulous views of the highest mountain in Europe from the word go. At the lake is a mountain refuge selling refreshments, many of these through out the trek. Even in June there is sometimes snow lying at 2000m and above. It can be a beautiful time of year with sun, sparkling snow and meadows of early flowers. Much quieter than July & August too.

Approaching the Grand Col Ferret, TMB Sept 2008

Flower filled meadows in the summer and soaring glaciated peaks are constant on the Tour of Mont Blanc. One of the highest cols is the Grand Col Ferret which takes us over the border into Italy

walking toward Col de Croix, Sept 2008

The much quieter Italian side of Mont Blanc. Totally different in character and great food too!

Marmotts, July 2008

Marmots are constant companions along the tour. These cute little fury mammals are usually heard before seen making a loud whistling sound. They burrow into the meadows and live at quite high altitudes

The Grand Col Ferret, June 2007

Over The Grand Col Ferret, the highest col we ascend on the tour. This is the frontier between Switzerland and Italy. A beautiful spot for Alpine flowers especially late June/early July. Courmayer can just be seen it the far distance, Italys equivalent to Chamonix.
