GUIDING IN TORRIDON

Liathach. May 2011

Narrow ridges, soaring peaks, coastal views, remoteness and fascinating geology-Torridon has it all. Located in the far NW Highlands the mountains of Torridon are our personal favourites. The long trek up to this area is well worth the visit, with the Highlands at their very best. We usually spend several days in the area and base ourselves at the excellent Youth Hostel with many walks straight from the door. The three most well known and spectacular mountains are Beinn Alligin, Liathach and Beinn Eighe. There is easy scrambling along the long ridges making for wonderful traverses with coastal and sea views close by. There are many other hills in the area including the Munro's of Beinn Liath Mor, Maol Chean Dearg, Sgurr Ruadh and Slioch on Loch Maree.

Liathach. April 2009

The mountain of Liathach comprises of the two main summits, Mullach an Rathain and Spidean a' Choire Leith. Between the two peaks lies the fantastic scramble on the Am Fasarinen (the teeth). The traverse from East to West gives beautiful views over to Skye and Loch Torridon.

Am Fasairinen, Liathach May 2011

Terrific scrambling on Torridonian sandstone. There are plenty of easier sections of walking to take in the views.

Beinn Alligin, May 2011

Beinn Allgin is the easiest of the three 'big' traverses in Torridon. It is still a spectacular hill with two Munro's and the scrambling section on The Horns of Alligin. Once again with spectacular loch views to the west.

Tripple Buttress, Beinn Eighe. May 2011

Beinn Eighe, another of the 'big three' giants of Torridon. This long sprawling ridge with many summits including two Munro's can be walked/scrambled in it's entirety but it's worth the time to seek out all it's corries and many approaches to appreciate it's vast size. The Tripple Buttress is one of it's many features that is a 'must see'.
